Vegas went awry so now I'm a paperboy...
Well, we made it back from Vegas. It wasn't very fun. Actually, now that I think about it, it was one of the worse trips to Vegas ever. I'm sure Michael has gone in to it already. I'm going to refrain from making any comments about his family or the trip except for the following:
I have never seen so much coke sniffing in my life. I didn't like seeing that one bit.
I learned how to play craps thanks to my friendly blackjack dealer, Lonzo. I had a lot of fun playing and learning. I shot the dice for a long ass time. I made people thousands of dollars, albeit I was shaking the whole fucking time.
I hit a full house on Let it Ride.
I love Michael very much and he will always be my best friend. I wish there was something I could do to make him feel better.
Michael drove home yesterday, which was really nice for me since I usually drive. Unfortunately I think he drove because he needed something to focus on other than his anger. We had a good long talk about his family. He finally clued me in on his relationship with his brother, or lack of I should say. I tried to listen and be supportive. I don't think he should feel guilty about anything he said or felt. I think he should talk things over with his family. Anyway, I hope he's doing a little better.
When we got home and settled it was about 10:30. We went to bed and tried to sleep off the shitty weekend. I had to get up at 1:00 though to help my mother with her paper route.
It was my first time working on a paper route. I was a little pissed off to begin with. You see, my mom told me the paper starts at 1:30. We didn't leave her house until almost 2:00 and she had to stop for gas. Hey, damn it, I needed some sleep! That pissed me off. By the time we arrived at the distribution center I was starting to calm down. We walked in and she started going over every little thing with me. I guess that's cool, but all I could think about was getting the fucking things delivered. I ended up rolling all the papers. Mom did the bundles and bagged all my rolled and banded papers. It worked out nice because she has two artificial knuckles in her hand and banding hurts her hand and I can't lift or bend because of my back. So we finished really fast, apparently I'm a natural. She loaded the car so I wouldn't hurt my back and I looked at the first address on the softbook.
The softbook is a little computer with all the addresses and instructions in it. It plugs into your car lighter. It has a touch screen and once you deliver the paper to a certain address you highlight it and move on. We started to pull out of the distribution center when all of the sudden rap music starts blaring at unheard of volumes (at least it is unheard of at 3:30 in the morn). The damn softbook is hitting the power button on my mom's car stereo. Apparently my mom's girlfriend, Janie, had been jamming out while she was setting all the stuff up.
We started on the route and had trouble. The first three papers were off of a dirt road. It has been raining for three days here. It was all mud and we were in my mom's little Honda. We were slipping and sliding all over the road. We managed to get everything delivered though. There is only one subdivision on our route. The rest are businesses or very rural. I had to tell you this because of some of the instructions. For example, one house said, " Please deliver paper in the mailbox. Our neighbor's goat will eat it if you don't." Another said, "...the house is the first house on the left after the backwards tractor sign." Hello, if the sign is facing the other direction how will we know that it's a tractor sign? I mean it's pitch black out there. Anyway, I got a chuckle out of that kind of thing.
As we were finishing up I looked down to find my mom had packed us little snacks and sodas. All the sudden I had flashbacks to the good mom who made me sack lunches with little notes in them. Don't get me wrong she didn't do it more than a handful of times, but I remembered how nice that was. I had a full-fledged red cream soda. Suddenly I realized I kind of had fun on the paper route. I don't like all the smoking she does. Christ, I practically had a damn buzz. There was something fun about it though. Either that or I was really fucking tired. Who the hell knows?
So that's it for my paper route adventure. This new schedule is going to cause me to blog later in the day, so don't forget about me. I'm still here. I'm just busy delivering conservative slanted and republican owned views on the happenings in our world. Oh yeah, and the Macy's ads...:)
