New Year in a nutshell....

On New Year's Eve we still hadn't received a call to go to the martini party, so we went to our friends Buffy and Derek's house. They had a hodge podge of people over there. As usual, Michael and I were the youngest. There was this really wild guy from Texas. He seemed like the type that is always trying to push the envelope. One guy who just moved here from NC had brought mortar(like for real fireworks). It was funny. I kept repeating to myself the whole idea of the evening: Hey, let's get piss drunk and shoot off fireworks!

I spent a little while talking to Buffy's sister-in-law. We were sitting by the firepit when a guy from the party at the house behind us leaned over the wall. He asked us if either of us wanted to join him for a shot. Jocelyn replied, "No, I've had my fill for the day." I declined also. He asked us to ask any of the other partygoers if they would join him. Jocelyn yells, " Hey, does anyone want to take a shower with this guy?" I looked at her eyes bulging and said, "Jocelyn, he said shot, sweetie." She was so embarrassed. All she could do was laugh. I started to chuckle knowing how polite and matter of fact she was with her answer especially considering that she thought he said shower. I probably would have squirted the guy with the garden hose.

Michael received a little voice recorder key chain in his stocking. He was going around capturing what people thought of the year 2004. When he came to Derek it was hilarious.

Michael: What do you have to say about 2004?
Derek: ((((pauses)))
Michael: Hold that thought...let me record this....in three, two , one, ....(((points at Derek)))
Derek: What do I have to say about 2004? It came before 2005.

My sentiments exactly. I'm still not sure why we celebrate the new year. It's coming whether we celebrate it or not. It's not like we have a really rich tradition like the Chinese or any other culture based group. I think it's just a good reason for people to cut loose and have a drink. What did they do during prohibition? Anyway....Happy New Year.
