All parents don't suck....

Well I wasn't quite sure how to title this. There are several reasons why children act out or act badly. A lot(not all of them) of them I believe has to do with the parenting. In today's society children don't get enough of a lot of needed things, and get too much of a lot of luxurious items. Part of the reason I don't want to have children is I'm afraid I will be a bad mother. I don't mean bad. I mean...I'm afraid I'll worry too much, be too strict, push too hard, be forced to be the disciplinarian, and a billion other things. The other reason I don't have children is the because of the society we live in. Children are raised by computers, television, video games, babysitters, and who knows what else. I'm not placing blame on all of the parents for this. Some parents are forced to work all the time to support their kids. There is no shame in that. There are parents who don't want to be bothered to get up off their ass and take the kid to the park....wow this has strayed way off the subject......

What I really wanted to talk about is an incident that occurred last night. Sam and I were cooking in the kitchen and Michael was watching television. The doorbell rang. Sam and I told Michael to get it (1) Because we were cooking (2) Because it might have been Lynne. When Michael opened the door we could here a conversation begin. A few minutes later Michael came around the corner with two envelopes. One was addressed to me and the other to him.

My little eleven year old boyfriend across the street had made something for us. He told Michael it was for when I let him come over an play video games and for being so nice to them when they first moved in (I guess they were scared). Michael opened his envelope to find two pages. One said, "Michael, you rock!" The other page was a picture of Michael that Tony drew. I was so impressed. Tony had actually known that Michael's eyes were blue and furthermore, he had all kinds of numbers going up and down on his left bicep area. I couldn't believe how much detail Tony had remembered about Michael. He gave Michael a huge smile with bright shiny teeth.

Michael opened the letter addressed to me. It said, "Nina, you are awesome!" The other page was a picture of me. He had noticed that I have blue eyes and he dressed me in pink. He made me have big pink lips and long blonde hair. He is just too cute.

I think that his parents must be doing something right. I'm glad to see some happy children. I'm glad that his parents are attentive. For the first time in my life I am going to hang a picture that a child drew on my stainless steel fridge. Kids don't fit into my life the traditional way, but I really like being the cool neighbor. I think Tony and his little friends might be coming over tomorrow to play video games. I better go get little boy snacks, I don't think they will go for the diet cherry coke and rice cakes....
